Sustainable Urban Development: Smart Cities and the Role of IoT in Building Resilient Communities
Abstract
Rapid urbanization presents significant challenges to sustainable development, including increased energy consumption, pollution, and infrastructure strain. This paper explores the concept of smart cities as a solution to urban sustainability challenges, with a focus on the role of the Internet of Things (IoT) in improving urban infrastructure, transportation, and energy management. By analyzing case studies of smart city projects, the paper highlights the benefits of real-time data collection, predictive maintenance, and automated systems in enhancing urban resilience and reducing environmental impact. The findings demonstrate that smart cities can improve the quality of life for residents while contributing to the achievement of sustainability targets through intelligent resource management and technological innovation.
